About us
Supporting the mission of the Navajo County Sheriff's Office
The Sheriff's Auxiliary supports the mission of the Navajo County Sheriff's Department and is deeply involved in the communities we serve. The Auxiliary was formed about 35 years ago as a volunteer organization operating purely on donations.
What we do
Last year the SAVs provided over 11,000 hours of service to the community and Sheriff's Department. We have many different functions, including:
House Watch
Uniformed volunteers in marked Auxiliary vehicles periodically check homes of traveling residents and deliver inspection reports.
Neighborhood Patrol
Regular patrol that increases law-enforcement visibility and deters crime in our communities.
Event Security
Providing trained volunteer presence at special events, parades, festivals, and community gatherings.
Deputy Support
Assisting Sheriff's deputies at scenes to free them for emergencies.
Search & Rescue
Supporting search operations across Navajo County's varied terrain.
Traffic Control
Managing traffic and parking control at events and incident scenes.
Courthouse Duty
Providing security and support services at county courthouse facilities.
Forest Road Patrol
Patrolling forest roads to support public safety in our high-country communities.
Join us
We are always looking for new volunteers! Whether you're here full time or part time, we have a place for you. We train you by having you attend one of our academies, which uses curriculum and resources provided by the Navajo County Sheriff's Department. After that, you choose what area of the SAVs you'd like to be involved in. Vehicles are provided by the Sheriff's Department.
You can contribute from 8 hours a month on up, depending on your schedule. We've had SAVs in their retirement years — so don't think you're too old to volunteer and make a difference!
